The Sandman is here.

As Dan left for work this afternoon, he shouted up the stairs to me that the mail (or UPS or some other delivery carrier) had brought my copy of Absolute Sandman, Volume One, and that he was leaving it on the newel post.  I managed to finish my forty-minute writing segment before opening it, believe it or not.

It’s absolutely beautiful.

It will be fun to read the story again (this much of it, anyway), but there are a lot of extras at the back, too, regarding the original conception of the story that will be fun to digest as well.  But the binding is incredible, and it feels like a REAL BOOK.  If ebooks ever get here with enough presence to turn printed publishing into the sort of indulgence that gives us quality like this, I will not be unhappy.

I think I’m going to make time in the evening tonight to really give it a good thumb through in the easy chair.  Mmm-hmm.
